The four imperial cities are Marrakech, Fes, Meknes and Rabat. Each one was a capital in the past and has medinas, palaces and monuments to explore. Fes is known for its old medina and tanneries, Marrakech for Jemaa el-Fna square and its gardens.

The classic route crosses the High Atlas to the Dades Valley and then continues to Merzouga, at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. There you ride a camel at sunset and sleep in a desert camp. Plan at least 3 days for the round trip so you can enjoy the road and the landscapes.

The main roads over the High Atlas, such as the Tizi n'Tichka pass, are normally open all year, but snow can cause short delays between December and February. Your driver follows the road conditions daily and adjusts the schedule when needed.
